Morro Bay and Surrounding Areas: April 2026

Montana de Oro State Park lies just south of Morro Bay and contains one of the best coastal bluff trails to be found anywhere. Access to cliff edges and stone formations is easy throughout the trail allowing outstanding views of the wild bending sandstone layers that lie all along the shoreline. Other bluff hikes are in the area including those at Estero Bluff State Park in Cayucos (just north of Morro Bay) and Fiscalini Ranch Preserve further north in Cambria. We visited all of these, and photos from each are in this gallery. The incredible stone shapes contrasting with wave action and coastal flowers created some amazing scenes. Since all the photos show similar coastal scenes, I’ve just labeled their locations. Montana de Oro photos are mostly of the sandstone formations, while Fiscalini had lots of coastal flowers and Estero was a bit of both.
